Frequently Asked Dentistry Questions

Do you have a question for our dentists? Not sure if our dental office is the right fit for you? We understand that all patients want to have their oral health needs met. We also understand that dentistry can be a complicated subject. Below is a list of a few of the most common questions we receive. We hope that they help you as you make your final decision for a new dental home. If your question is still unanswered, don’t hesitate to give our dental office a call!

Can you improve my smile’s appearance?

There are many ways we can give your smile the cosmetic boost it needs! While teeth whitening treatment, porcelain veneers, metal-free restorations, and direct bonding can all hide multiple imperfections in teeth, we also want to mention the powerful results that Invisalign® and MTM® Clear Aligners can provide. These treatments even take your dental care a step further by ensuring effective long-term results!

I have trouble staying asleep. Do I have sleep apnea?

The only way to confirm if sleep apnea is present is by getting diagnosed via a sleep study. Our dental office partners with some of the top sleep physicians in the area, which means you’ll be able to obtain a comprehensive and detailed diagnosis of your sleep disorder. If you do have sleep apnea, we’ll go over all of your treatment options in great detail and find a solution that works best for you. This could be an oral appliance, such as the SomnoMed device or the TAP series.

Is it possible to replace an entire row of teeth via dental implants?

Yes! Dental implants are incredibly versatile when it comes to tooth replacement. They can just as easily replace an entire row of teeth as they can replace single or multiple consecutive teeth. Our dental office also provides All-On-4 treatment, which allows us to place your permanent restoration the same day as your surgical implantation. Even if you do not have as much bone volume as you need for traditional implants, we can also place mini dental implants which are half their size.

How often should I visit for cleanings?

Our dental office recommends that you visit for cleanings once every six months. However, those who are currently suffering from periodontal (gum) disease will need to come in more often, typically every three to four months. Even if you have a dedicated at-home oral care routine, professional cleanings allow us to remove calcified plaque (tartar), which can only be safely removed by a dentist. It also gives us a chance to confirm that your at-home oral care is working effectively and whether or not additional preventive treatments are needed.

Is there treatment for gum disease?

There are multiple treatments that can effectively treat the symptoms of gum disease. If you have gingivitis, a professional cleaning at our dental office as well as improved at-home care should reverse your condition. However, periodontitis and its advanced forms require scaling and root planing, which both work to remove harmful plaque from above and below the gum line as well as help the gums reattach to the tooth roots. We also offer antibiotic therapy, oral rinse products like Periogen, and soft tissue laser technology to improve treatment outcomes.

I have jaw pain. How do I know if it’s TMJ disorder?

Jaw pain does not necessarily mean you have TMJ disorder, although it is one of the most common symptoms. TMJ disorder develops as a result of other untreated issues, including bruxism or malocclusions. If caught early, a simple nightguard or orthodontic treatment can prevent the development of TMJ disorder. By coming to our dental office, we can closely evaluate your jaw, bite and current condition of your teeth and any restorations. Our dental office provides many solutions to treat TMJ disorder, regardless of how long you may have had the condition.
