Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

When it comes to avoiding most cases of dental disease, checkups and cleanings are your main line of defense outside of at-home oral care. During your checkup, we’ll examine all the areas of your mouth, including your teeth, gums, tongue, inner tissue, throat and tonsils for any abnormalities or issues. After a detailed exam, we’ll get to work removing all plaque and tartar. Only a dentist can safely remove tartar deposits from teeth, which is just another reason why routine checkups are so important.

Dental Sealants

Whether you’re young or older, dental sealants can make a big difference in your oral health. In molars and premolars specifically, decay can easily form due to difficult-to-remove plaque and bacteria. In order to seal vulnerable pockets of teeth away from bacteria, plaque, and food debris, our dental office uses composite resin. This clear combination of plastic and glass is hardened using a special curing light, which effectively seals vulnerable pocket of teeth away from bacteria in seconds.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Do you wake up with jaw pain every morning? Are your teeth in danger of cracking or becoming worn-down as a result of teeth grinding? Clenching and grinding your teeth, also known as bruxism, can cause severe, permanent damage to your smile if you don’t have the right protection. Thankfully, our dental office can create a nightguard that protects your smile, particularly while you sleep. Since bruxism most commonly occurs during this time, it can be difficult to know if you have the condition until you’ve been evaluated by our dental office.

Mouthguards/Sportsguards

Do you participate in contact sports? How about your youngest family members? If they are using an inferior, store-bought mouthguard while they practice or play in the next big game, it could put their smile and/or oral development at risk. Advanced Dentistry uses a digital impression system to design a mouthguard that fits your smile exactly, ensuring optimal comfort and protection. Custom-made mouthguards always last longer than what you’d find over the counter and are sure to give either you or your child the confidence to perform without worry.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Many people don’t realize it, but the dentists at Advanced Dentistry are always on the lookout for oral cancer during your general exam. Dental professionals are in a unique position to catch this condition, which is diagnosed in 53,000 people every year. We’ll pay close attention for any non-healing sores, lumps, bumps, or red/white patches on your gums, tongue, palate, inner cheek tissue or throat. The sooner you catch the early stages of oral cancer, the better off you’ll be when it’s time for treatment.

Fluoride Treatments

The use of fluoride in dentistry has proven to be extremely beneficial, regardless of your age. After your exam and cleaning, we recommend a fluoride treatment to give your smile an additional layer of protection from bacteria and tooth decay. Fluoride not only fights this bacteria but strengthens tooth enamel in the process. Just make sure to also brush twice a day with fluoridated toothpaste as well to ensure that your teeth are protected in between visits.

At-Home Hygiene Products

Our dental office recommends Crest® products to keep teeth cavity-free and healthy, but any toothpaste that uses fluoride is enough for your oral care. By speaking to one of our dentists or hygienists about your oral health needs, you can get a professional recommendation on what products would work best for you. For example, if you have teeth sensitivity and cannot use traditional toothpaste, we’ll help you find one that protects your oral health without causing any issues.

Children’s Dentistry

Oral health is important at every age, especially for children. That’s why we want to make your child’s dental appointments as comfortable as possible. During their visit, we’ll briefly examine their mouth, remove any plaque we see, then go over the most important oral care habits to keep in mind at home. We may also discuss future treatments we believe will help them, including fluoride treatments, dental sealants, or mouthguards if they are active!

Frenectomies/Lip & Tongue-Tie

In many cases, younger patients do not have the full range of movement in their mouth or lips due to a small piece of tissue known as the frenulum. This thin piece of skin attaches the lips to the gums as well as the bottom of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. To reduce the size of this portion of skin, our dental office uses a highly advanced dental laser to give your child the full range they need to eat, speak and latch properly.

Gum Disease Treatment

Nearly half of American adults 30 years of age and older have some form of advanced gum disease. If your gums feel tender, bleed while you practice oral care, or make it difficult to chew foods without discomfort, it’s likely that you have untreated gum disease. At Advanced Dentistry, we have several therapeutic techniques to get your oral health back on track. Whether it’s scaling and root planing, antibiotic therapy, or advanced soft tissue laser therapy, we’ll help you find the right treatment.
