However, in other cases, it can take several months for the jaw bone to envelop the implant post. When you meet with us for your consultation, we can discuss the timing of your specific treatment and give you a better idea of what to expect moving forward.
What is the success rate for dental implants?
In general, over 95 percent of dental implants are successfully placed. Moreover, even 20 years after placement, around 95 percent of dental implants are still going strong. Those are incredible odds for our patients! Before we begin the procedure, we conduct a thorough evaluation and put together a plan that will give you the results you want. To avoid failure in the short term, we may need to perform gum disease therapy or a bone graft first.
How should I maintain my dental implants?
In order for your implants to last for decades to come, you have to perform proper maintenance. Although the placement of your dental implants involves a complex procedure, taking care of your dental implants after they’ve been restored is actually quite simple—you treat them as you would natural teeth. That is, you need to brush and floss them every day. Then, about every six months, you need to come to our practice for checkups so that we can make sure everything looks good and continues to function as intended.
Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
The answer to this question, generally speaking, is most likely yes. Most patients qualify for this treatment by being in good oral health and having enough jaw bone density to support the implants.
