Benefits of Dental Implants

Unlike bridges or dentures, dental implants replace the missing tooth’s entire structure, which includes the root portion. The root is essential to making your tooth feel like a true replacement tooth. Since bridges and dentures only replace the visible crown portion of teeth, they never feel quite as natural as they could be, especially when compared to dental implants. Eating the foods you love as well as smiling and laughing to those around you is never inhibited by your replacement teeth.

Furthermore, dental implants last longer than any other replacement option and require no special maintenance compared to natural teeth. With daily oral care and routine dental appointments, your new smile should last between 25 years and a lifetime.

Indications for Dental Implants

The beauty of dental implants is that it’s incredibly easy to fit them with multiple types of restorations. This includes both bridges and dentures, but it also includes truly revolutionary appliances. Keep reading to learn more about your options!

Missing One Tooth

To replace one tooth, a single titanium implant is placed inside the jaw. Then, an implant-retained crown is placed on top. Both components are attached via an abutment, which is a small metal connector that keeps the porcelain crown stabilized. We use porcelain because of its durability and esthetic qualities.

Missing Multiple Teeth

To replace multiple teeth, a pair of dental implants can be used to hold a bridge. If you want to avoid removing natural tooth structure, which is commonly done with traditional bridges, you’ll likely prefer an implant-retained solution. In most cases, either a three- or four-crown bridge can be held via dental implants.

Missing All of Your Teeth

Both full and partial dentures can be modified to fit with dental implants. Patients who are tired of their current denture slipping and shifting out of place can expect improved stability, more natural esthetics, and easier maintenance, especially if they choose a fixed option. However, implant-retained dentures can also be made to be removable if preferred.

All-On-4/Teeth-in-a-Day

The All-On-4 dental implant procedure allows us to give patients their new smile the same day as their implant surgery. Essentially, one restoration is placed on top of four dental implants strategically placed throughout the jaw. These implants are placed to maximize the amount of bone volume currently present, allowing for a restoration to be placed immediately after surgery.

Mini Dental Implants

Do you still want dental implants but fear that your jawbone has become too deteriorated to hold them? Mini dental implants are half the size of traditional dental implants, meaning they are much easier to place inside of the diminished alveolar bone. They are minimally invasive, so you don’t even need extensive surgery to have them placed!

Start to Finish Convenience

Unlike other dental offices, Advanced Dentistry performs each step of your dental implant treatment in one dental office. With our dentists’ expertise, our dental office’s planning technology, and our detailed fabrication systems, we can effectively place and restore your dental implants all in the same location. We believe this improves the overall doctor-patient experience, enhances communication, and allows us to make sure that all your needs are being properly met.

Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants

Dental implants are typically more expensive than other tooth replacement options, but the exact cost of your treatment will likely vary depending on your needs. For example, the number of implants you need, the type of restoration you use, and preparatory treatments designed to make dental implants viable will all influence your final cost. With that said, dental implants are largely seen as the most cost-effective tooth replacement option because of their longevity, function, and esthetics. They are often lauded as a long-term investment for these reasons.

Dental Implant FAQs

If you’re considering getting dental implants, you’re really considering a long-term investment in your smile. Before you pull the trigger, you may want to make sure you fully understand this option and get answers to your questions. Below you’ll find our responses to some common inquiries we get from patients, but if you have others that aren’t mentioned here, be sure to ask us over the phone or during your consultation. After all, you should feel comfortable and confident about your treatment even before you have it completed!

How long will implant treatment take?

Each case is unique, and the timing depends on several factors. For example, if you’re getting All-on-4 treatment, you can receive your restored smile on the same day as the implant placement. However, in other cases, it can take several months for the jaw bone to envelop the implant post. When you meet with us for your consultation, we can discuss the timing of your specific treatment and give you a better idea of what to expect moving forward.

What is the success rate for dental implants?

In general, over 95 percent of dental implants are successfully placed. Moreover, even 20 years after placement, around 95 percent of dental implants are still going strong. Those are incredible odds for our patients! Before we begin the procedure, we conduct a thorough evaluation and put together a plan that will give you the results you want. To avoid failure in the short term, we may need to perform gum disease therapy or a bone graft first.

How should I maintain my dental implants?

In order for your implants to last for decades to come, you have to perform proper maintenance. Although the placement of your dental implants involves a complex procedure, taking care of your dental implants after they’ve been restored is actually quite simple—you treat them as you would natural teeth. That is, you need to brush and floss them every day. Then, about every six months, you need to come to our practice for checkups so that we can make sure everything looks good and continues to function as intended.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

The answer to this question, generally speaking, is most likely yes. Most patients qualify for this treatment by being in good oral health and having enough jaw bone density to support the implants. However, the only way to know for sure whether dental implants could be the right replacement solution for you is to schedule an appointment with us. Plus, keep in mind that even if you don’t initially qualify for dental implants, we can provide the treatment necessary to put in a better position for them.
